This skin treatment uses IPL or intense pulsed light to create a more even complexion for those suffering from blemishes, brown spots, redness, rosacea, and acne.
The IPL machine works by targeting light energy to specific areas. The light energy targets the pigmented tissue and damages it. The skin then goes into a natural healing process and helps remove the targeted area, revealing new, healthy skin.
Are you a candidate?
There are some factors to consider making sure a photofacial is right for you.
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Medical History
- No sun exposure longer than 30 minutes for 2 weeks prior to and after your treatment
- Must be off Accutane for a minimum of 6 months
- Must be off any medications that might make you sensitive to light (Antibiotics, NSAIDs, etc.)
- Avoid retinol/retin-A or glycolic acid one to two weeks prior to treatment
Downtime
There is little to no downtime. You may have some redness and a small amount of swelling but make up can be applied immediately after your treatment. Any targeted areas may become darker as the healing process pushes the pigment up to the surface. This can vary patient to patient. You may notice a “coffee ground” appearance but this will come off on its own. Make sure to avoid any exfoliation or scrubs and avoid picking at any scabs.
Does this hurt?
There is little to no discomfort during the treatment. The device has a cooling crystal to help cool down the skin after each pulse. Most will describe it as a “rubber band snap” sensation.
How many treatments are needed?
This varies depending on your specific goals. Typically, 4-6 treatments are necessary to receive optimal results. Treatments are spaced 4 weeks apart.
